The
“New Works for Social Justice” concert will take
place on Friday March 13, 2009. Composers must provide their
own performers and equipment. A Steinway grand piano is available
for performance and a stereo sound system is available for
electronic or electro-acoustic works.
MAJIC (Musical
Arts for Justice in the Community) is a ministry of Bethlehem
Church that seeks to support local and regional musicians
who create original music for the purpose of sharing it with
the public and raise money for justice organizations that
will help people throughout the Greater Grand Rapids Area.
The 2008-2009 Concert Series will give 100% of their admission
donations to local efforts to care for the poor and homeless.
The MAJIC Concert
Series defines social justice as a way of being that affords
individuals and groups fair treatment and fair sharing of
the benefits of society. Works submitted that deal with social
justice will be given preferential consideration, as well
as works that are on the cutting edge of musical composition,
works written between January 2008 and the present, and works
